UC application extensions — open campuses for fall 2023
Students interested in the University of California who have not yet applied still have the opportunity to be considered for admission for fall 2023. Applications are being accepted at UC Merced for both freshman and transfer applicants until January 31. UC Riverside will continue to accept only transfer applications until January 31.
Transfer Academic Update (TAU) deadline
Transfer students are required to update their application with fall 2022 grades and confirmation/modification of winter/spring 2023 courses by the end of January.
Transfer applicants received an email message from UC in mid-December to complete the TAU. All transfer applicants must submit a TAU by the priority deadline of January 31, including students who applied, or plan to apply, to one of the open campuses in December or January. Students must submit a TAU even if they have no fall 2022 grades or winter/spring 2023 courses to report.
The TAU can be accessed from the Application Status page after logging back into the application. Failure to submit a TAU by the January 31 priority deadline may affect a student’s admission status. Please encourage your students to complete the TAU before the end of this month.
Canceling/withdrawing a UC application
Each campus has specific instructions for applicants who wish to cancel or withdraw their application from further consideration. This only applies to students canceling or withdrawing prior to when admission decisions are released. See campus instructions for canceling/withdrawing a UC application.
Pre-admission verification
In late December, a random sampling of applicants was selected to verify information in their application. Applicants were asked to provide documentation verifying one item from sections within the UC application including academic history, honors and awards, extracurricular activities, volunteer work and community service, special program participation, employment or information contained in the personal insight responses.
Applicants were provided a list of appropriate documentation within the verification form. Appropriate documentation could include official transcripts, a letter from a counselor or coach on letterhead or a copy of a certificate or award. The deadline to respond is January 31. Failure to respond to the request by the deadline will result in withdrawal of the application.
Any students with questions about the verification process can contact the UC Application Center at [email protected].
Personal insight question (PIQ) plagiarism check
All personal insight responses were reviewed by an anti-plagiarism software program in early January. Notifications were sent out earlier this month via email to students whose responses require verification of their authenticity. Notified applicants have the opportunity to demonstrate that their PIQ responses are their own work and were provided further instructions on how to do so. Applicants who are unable to provide evidence that the PIQs are their own work or who do not respond in the designated timeframe will have their UC application withdrawn. If an applicant has submitted an appeal, they will receive a final decision regarding their cancellation in early February.
