State Financial Aid Filing Deadline Extended

In consideration of the challenges students and families have experienced since the launch of the redesigned Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) the state filing deadline has been extended from April 2 to May 2, 2024. UC is encouraging students to complete the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) as soon as possible, but before the state deadline. Students can be reassured that any delays in processing will not negatively impact their financial support at UC.

The California Student Aid Commission is hosting free Cash for College workshops across California to help students complete their FAFSA or CADAA applications. Find a local workshop.

The first-year Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) deadline is May 15.

The campuses continue to assess the situation and will communicate any updates as they become available.

New UC financial aid resources

UC is excited to announce the launch of a new systemwide financial aid calculator. This new tool will allow students and families to estimate their financial aid and cost of attendance at any of our nine undergraduate campuses in one place. The calculator is currently available for California resident students. Information for nonresident students will be available in the coming weeks.

Earlier this month, a series of videos were shared on theUniversity of California Instagram account addressing some of the most frequently asked questions about financial aid, including FAFSA changes, delays and impact on admissions. These videos reflect the earlier filing deadline of April 2. While the filing deadline has since been extended, the tips provided and answers to frequently asked questions remain true.

More than half of UC’s California undergraduates pay no tuition and 70% qualify for grants or scholarships, totalling an average of $18,000 per year.
